What many people may not know is that Bangkok also offers another type of attraction that attracts ghosts from all over the world. These are abandoned buildings and other structures scattered around Bangkok. Every abandoned monument has a story, sometimes a tragedy, that explains how it became what it is. One of the abandoned structures is a 49-story tower that has been empty for 26 years.
Although many people call it the Ghost Tower, its real name is the Unique Sathorn Tower. . What was supposed to represent class and culture in Bangkok, the heart of Thailand, is now an artifact covered in graffiti, rumors and many ghost stories. People are forbidden to enter this house, although illegal visitors still manage to enter and make videos, posting them on YouTube and other social media sites.
The famous Thai architect and developer, Rangsan Torsuwan, conceived the idea for this beautiful building in 1990 and started work. He thought that the luxury residence above Bangkok was for the famous people. However, his dream was short-lived. Torsuwan was arrested in 1993 for allegedly plotting to kill a Supreme Court judge.
Torsuwan was sentenced in 2008, although the murder did not happen, only to be removed in 2010. The Asian financial crisis hit Thailand in 1997, destroying the country’s economy. The political drama in Torsuwan and the country’s struggling economy has had a huge impact. The unique tower of Sathorn, which was almost 80 percent complete when construction stopped, to rot, its 49 floors will not go anywhere. Some believe that this house is haunted because it was built on top of an old burial ground. News of the tragedy ignited after the body of a Swede was found hanging from the 43rd floor in December 2014. He was a photographer who sneaked out of the house in fear to capture the sunrise with his lens.
As time goes on, stories about ghost encounters grow, and the house’s disturbing situation and missing objects contribute to the growth of these stories. The Promise, a 2017 horror film, was made in this facility. Company advertising banners are seen on the walls in this building. Security is maintained around the building to prevent people from entering, but even the security forces do not dare to enter the abandoned building.
