According to the viral account, the two agreed to meet for their first date at a café in the Ranikuthi area of the city. The man said the meeting initially appeared normal, with the pair engaging in conversation while ordering coffee and hookah.

However, the situation took an unexpected turn when the bill arrived, leaving the man shocked at the total amount of ₹8,500. The incident has since sparked discussions on social media about rising cases of alleged dating app scams and the need for greater caution while meeting strangers through online

Man Left Distressed After Alleged Dating App Scam

The details of the incident were shared in a viral post on X by the handle @CountryGulshan. According to the post, the young man had connected with a woman on the Bumble dating app, after which she suggested meeting at a café called Couple Cafe Zone near the Ranikuthi area in Kolkata.

The two reportedly ordered two coffees and a hookah during the meeting. However, when the bill arrived, the man was shocked to see a total amount of ₹8,500. The post further claimed that the café staff allegedly surrounded the man while the woman left the venue.

The viral post alleged that additional items were deliberately added to inflate the bill and described the incident as a possible planned scam. It also advised users of dating apps to remain cautious when meeting strangers, recommending that people choose public meeting places, avoid isolated locations, and inform friends or family about their plans beforehand.

One user joked that the young man ended up paying “₹8,500 for a coffee and an unexpected premium subscription experience.” Another user humorously wrote that after reading the post, they were reconsidering their excitement about a Bumble match in Kolkata and jokingly contemplating deleting all dating apps.

Some users from Kolkata claimed that similar incidents involving so-called “couples zone” cafés have been reported earlier. One commenter stated that such scams are allegedly organized and target unsuspecting individuals through dating apps.

Several users also called for greater awareness about potential dating scams, with one remarking that incidents like these could continue if people remain unaware or fail to report them.
