Coins and statues were locked in a box beneath a house that burned down 1800 years ago.

A vast treasure has been discovered beneath the ruins of a house destroyed by fire nearly 1,800 years ago. The residence once belonged to a wealthy Roman family, revealing remarkable insights into their prosperity and way of life.

Archaeologists in Romania have unearthed ancient treasures hidden beneath the remains of a Roman family’s burned-down home. The residence was once part of a thriving ancient town, shedding new light on the prosperity and culture of that era.

According to a report by the New York Post, Romania’s National History Museum announced the discovery on August 23. The treasure was unearthed within the remains of the ancient site, offering a significant glimpse into Roman history.

Gold coins, statues and utensils found

According to the announcement of MNIR, more than 40 gold coins and many ancient ornaments and statues made of precious metals have been found in this

Several other artifacts were also uncovered beneath the ruins of the ancient burned house. These include inscribed tablets, ceramics, and objects made of bronze, iron, glass, and stone, adding further depth to the discovery.

The colour of the gold coins had turned green.

The coins, buried underground for centuries, have corroded over time, turning shades of green and brown. Despite the rust, their shapes remain well-preserved, and some inscriptions are still clearly visible.

Researchers suggest that the house most likely belonged to a prominent family who lived between the mid-2nd and mid-3rd centuries, reflecting the wealth and influence they held during that period.

The house’s opulent design remains intact

The house featured limestone-paved floors and painted walls, which researchers described as “luxurious,” highlighting the lavish lifestyle enjoyed by wealthy Roman families of that era.

The coins have been transferred to the MNIR laboratory for restoration to their original state. Once the conservation process was completed, the artifacts were placed on display for the public.

Roman treasures have been found in Romania before

Romania is a land steeped in history, and in recent months several remarkable treasures have been unearthed here. Not long ago, a metal detectorist discovered a hoard of 1,469 ancient coins, adding to the country’s growing list of archaeological finds.
