Family Wanted Elderly Man ‘Couriered’ to Mangaluru, Calls It Social Statement Later

 

 

In a shocking incident in Bengaluru, an elderly man in visible distress

was reportedly struggling to breathe when staff members stepped in to assist him with water and basic care. The situation came to light after a family allegedly attempted to ‘courier’ the man to Mangaluru, in what was later claimed to be a social media gimmick.

The family stated that the act was intended as a protest highlighting rising bus fares during the UgadiRamzan season. However, the move has drawn sharp criticism, with many questioning the ethics of using a vulnerable individual to make a public statement.

For officials at the courier office in Bengaluru, the incident appeared far from a symbolic act. According to reports, five members of the family allegedly failed to disclose that the gunny sack they brought for dispatch contained a person inside, and instead seriously insisted that the individual be ‘couriered’ to Mangaluru. The episode has raised serious concerns over safety and accountability.

The incident took place near Vinayaka Circle under the jurisdiction of Vyalikaval Police Station in Bengaluru, when a family arrived at a courier office carrying a large gunny sack and requested that it be dispatched to an address in Mangaluru.

Sensing something suspicious, staff at the courier office in Bengaluru asked the family to open the sack. When they refused, employees intervened and opened it themselves, only to be shocked as a person was found inside.

According to local reports, the elderly man was struggling to breathe and appeared to be in distress. Staff immediately provided him with water and basic assistance before alerting authorities.

When questioned by staff at the courier office in Bengaluru, the family allegedly maintained that the ‘parcel’ should be dispatched and expressed willingness to pay the required charges. As the situation escalated, employees alerted the police, following which the family reportedly left the premises in haste.

Police later tracked down the family and summoned them to Vyalikaval Police Station in Bengaluru. During questioning, the family reportedly claimed that the act was intended as a social media reel highlighting high bus fares and the lack of ticket availability.

Authorities said the family was counselled over the incident, after which they issued 

According to media reports, the family involved comprised a woman, her husband, her mother-in-law, and her brother-in-law. The elderly man found inside the gunny sack was reportedly identified as the woman’s father.

During questioning at the police station in Bengaluru, the woman is said to have stated that she was distressed over her father being unable to travel to Mangaluru due to high bus fares and the unavailability of tickets.
