An Egg Worth ₹200 Crore? The Jaw-Dropping Story of a Rare Masterpiece

A small four-inch creation conceals a secret valued at ₹200 crore, shining far brighter than any ordinary egg. Designed like a precious jewel, this Fabergé masterpiece transforms a simple shell into pure luxury.

Normally, when you ask the price of an egg, people will say it’s around ₹7 to ₹10 — but that’s just for an ordinary chicken egg. Look deeper into the world’s priciest eggs and you’ll discover some surprises, like turkey eggs that can cost nearly ₹2,000 each. Yet even more astonishing is the existence of an egg valued at an unbelievable ₹200 crore. Here is the captivating story of this extraordinary creation—and the secret behind its staggering price.

It measures barely four inches in length, yet its value is enough to leave anyone speechless—around ₹200 crore. And no, this isn’t an ordinary chicken egg. It’s the magnificent Fabergé Winter Egg, masterfully crafted from rock crystal and gleaming with a glass-like brilliance.

The Winter Egg, embellished with nearly 4,500 tiny diamonds, is considered one of the most valuable eggs ever created—and it’s now set to return to auction. With expectations that it may surpass all previous records, this extraordinary masterpiece has become the focus of a special report.

What’s hidden inside this remarkable egg? A charming surprise awaits. When opened, the egg reveals a miniature basket of flowers. The basket is fashioned from precious stones, while the delicate quartz blossoms represent the arrival of spring. Known as the Winter Egg, it symbolizes the beautiful transition from winter into spring.

There is also a deeply touching story behind its creation. In 1913, Tsar Nicholas II of Russia commissioned the egg as an Easter gift for his mother, Empress Maria Feodorovna. It was designed by Alma Pihl, one of the very few female artists at the House of Fabergé. Remarkably, only two of her Fabergé eggs survive today—one is now headed to auction, while the other belongs to the British royal family.

After this, Peter Carl Fabergé’s firm went on to create more than fifty such eggs for the Russian royal family, each featuring a distinctive design and hiding a unique surprise within. However, the Romanov dynasty, which had ruled Russia for nearly 300 years, collapsed during the 1917 revolution. In the years that followed, the communist government began selling off the royal family’s treasures. Because of the severe financial crisis at the time, this priceless egg was sold to a London dealer for just £450.

The Winter Egg passed through many owners over the years. For nearly two decades, it was thought to be lost—until it unexpectedly resurfaced in 1994. It was then sold for $5.6 million, later for $9.6 million in 2002, and eventually for $18.5 million in 2007. Now, as it returns to the auction stage once again, it is expected to break every previous record.
