A hilarious video showing a reporter hitting herself in the face to try to catch a mosquito has gone viral. The video shows Australian Today Show reporter Andrea Crothers standing in front of the camera as she prepares to report on the recent floods in Brisbane. Before he could start, a mosquito landed on her face. Contemplating, Andrea tries to crush the bug but ends up slapping herself. This time was recorded and later rehearsed in the studio as his colleagues watched the scene.
Before playing the video, one of his studio colleagues said: “A funny little thing happened today. Andrea Crothers, who is one of our great reporters on the show, covered these floods in Brisbane, fantastic work. But it hurts there, the weather is rainy, and all these conditions come with horrible insects when the sound of mosquitoes plays. So, here, she faces the air during the biography. There are risks journalists will take to bring you news.

To make the clip even funnier, the company edited it in slow motion. Commenting, one Instagram user wrote: “This is the biggest thing I’ve ever seen and I’ve watched it so many times.” Another said: “Oh my god, I can’t stop laughing. I’m with you all, of course it’s slow, poor Andrea is hilarious. One employee said: “I’m always laughing. I watched about five times. Gold.”
A day later, Andrea upgraded her ad kit to combat the mosquito attack by wearing a mesh face mask. While sharing a video of her new outfit, she wrote: “HR said I can wear this as long as I don’t ask for an investigation for punching myself.
This is not the only news broadcast that was interrupted by bugs. Back in December 2022, Canadian news anchor Farah Nasser swallowed a fly while she was in the studio reporting on floods in Pakistan.
Sharing because we all need a laugh these days. Turns out it's not just @fordnation, I swallowed a fly on air today.

However, Farah continued the broadcast after stopping for just a second. She shared this moment on X and wrote, “Sharing because we all need a laugh these days. Turns out it’s not just Dough Ford, I swallowed a fly on air today. (Very much a first world problem given the story I’m introducing).” She was referring to the moment Canadian politician Dough Ford swallowed a bee that flew into his mouth during a live broadcast in August 2022.
