Little Swimmer Ishank Completes 29 Km Sea Journey

Seven-year-old Ishank Singh from Ranchi has created history by successfully swimming across the Palk Strait between Sri Lanka and India. While most children his age are occupied with school and play, Ishank completed an extraordinary 29-kilometre sea swim, earning a world record for his achievement.
He began his journey from Talaimannar in Sri Lanka and reached Dhanushkodi in India in just 9 hours and 50 minutes. The remarkable feat has drawn widespread attention across the country, with many applauding his dedication, discipline, and determination at such a young age.
Young Swimmer Sets Record
Ishank Singh, a resident of Dhurwa in Ranchi, achieved a remarkable milestone on April 30, 2026, by completing the challenging Palk Strait swim. According to reports, he has become the youngest swimmer in the world to cross this demanding route.
The Palk Strait crossing is known for its unpredictable sea conditions and strong currents, making it a tough test even for experienced swimmers. Despite these challenges, Ishank completed the swim in under 10 hours. In recognition of his achievement, he was awarded the “Youngest and Fastest Palk Strait Swimmer” certificate by the Universal Records Forum.
Rigorous Training Behind the Feat
Seven-year-old Ishank Singh underwent intensive preparation in the lead-up to his record-breaking swim, dedicating several hours each day to training. He practised at Dhurwa Dam in Ranchi, following a disciplined and structured routine to build endurance.
Under the guidance of his coaches, Aman Kumar Jaiswal and Bajrang Kumar, Ishank reportedly trained for four to five hours daily to develop the stamina required for the long-distance challenge. His achievement has been widely celebrated across Jharkhand, with many hailing it as a proud moment for both the state and the nation.

Ishank Singh, a Class 3 student of DAV Shyamali in Ranchi, has received praise from his school for his record-breaking feat. The institution described his achievement as a moment of pride for both students and teachers.
According to reports, the school principal lauded Ishank’s courage, discipline, and focus in taking on such a challenging task at a young age. He added that the young swimmer’s success highlights how dedication and proper guidance can help achieve significant goals.
The school principal further stated that Ishank’s achievement is expected to inspire other students to work hard and pursue their dreams with dedication.
