London: A man was shocked to find a huge sum of £122,000 (Rs 1.2 crore) in his bank account. Urslaan Khan, 41, from east London, was shocked to see the large sum of money in his account and contacted Gatehouse Bank only to be told the money was his. The bank makes sudden investments.
Khan had £1 in his savings account the previous day. He had set up an order to transfer £200 from his current account to his savings account, however, Khan had no money in the account for the transfer.
Khan thought the bank had made a mistake and called them. “I took steps to make people aware of them. I was arrested three times – just to make sure there was nothing to worry about,” he told the Daily Mail.
The man returned the money to the bank
It took the bank 24 hours to realize its mistake. During this time, Khan can transfer all the money to another account. However, he did not do so.
Khan returned the money to the bank on October 2 after speaking to the bank. He believed that the money was intended for another customer who had at least two accounts in the bank. People’s money stopped in their accounts. Khan said that if he kept the money he would settle it for life. He would not have told anyone about the expected amount if he intended to keep it. Meanwhile, Gatehouse Bank said it could not comment on individual customer accounts.
