Most of us are afraid of many things such as animals, water, fire or even a dark room. A 71-year-old man is making headlines for allegedly being too scared of women. For 55 years, he locked himself in his house because of this. At the age of 16, Callitxe Nzamwita, from Rwanda, locked herself in her house to avoid all female company. To make his message loud and clear to everyone, he built a wall 15 meters high and closed himself so that no woman could enter the house. In an earlier interview, he explained: “The reason why I locked myself here and fenced off my house is because I want to make sure that women do not approach me.
He admitted that those who It is not his partner who scares him. The surprising thing is that despite his fear of women, the neighborhood women, especially his neighbors, are the only ones who help him survive. Apparently one of her neighbors revealed that she had not seen her leave the house since she was a child. He explained that Callitxe Nzamwita’s neighbors bring him the food and groceries he needs. When someone tried to help him, he didn’t want to be intimate with anyone. As a result, they often throw anything he wants in his house, and he comes to collect it.
If a female is near his yard, he runs into his house to protect himself. It was reported that this old man suffers from a mental illness called gynophobia, which is an irrational fear of women. Gynophobia is not recognized in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5). However, in a clinical setting, it is classified as a “specific phobia”.
Symptoms of gynophobia can be irrational, a terrible fear of women and anxiety that can be triggered by thinking about them. It includes panic attacks, chest tightness, heavy sweating, rapid heartbeat, and difficulty breathing in the face.
