Fashion shows held across the world are nothing new in pushing the limits of fashion by showcasing designer clothes as they walk down the runway. These shows often offer new things that surprise people, sometimes leading to trolls and online criticism. Similarly, a model in Chennai surprised the audience with a unique experience by taking her fashion choices to a new level. As seen in the now viral video, the model donned an aquarium-inspired outfit for the fashion show in an attempt to think outside the box, making it viral on the internet for using animals as an application.

Titled ‘Mermaid’, Preethi shared the news through Make Over’s Instagram page. The current image shows a model wearing a mermaid-style dress adorned with shells and a pot-like aquarium structure attached to her stomach area. As the video continues, a person comes and transfers the cute little “live fish” into the water in the aquarium.
Another video shows the model walking up the ramp and back into the pot with her hand on the object. He captioned it: “Imagine if a mermaid took care of a baby.”

As expected, the video has received over 8 million views and 4 million likes since it was shared. The issue quickly took off on social media, prompting mixed reactions from media users. Some expressed concern for the welfare of the fish, asking for their release, while others recognized his natural talent and unique way of looking at it. Amidst all the compliments and hate, Uorfi Javed was impressed by the creation and said, “I love it.”
Expressing concern for the little fish, one fisher said: “What’s wrong with you? Stop disturbing other living things.
Praising this unique fashion and sharing her thoughts, one Instagram user wrote: “I understand the dangers of using fish and the possibility of harming it. But why is this effort not taken seriously? I like the look, I wish the shell details would continue all the way to the back. A flat back detail cuts down on all the fun created.
“Don’t use animals for pleasure or fashion, whatever you call it. They are not your property, stop bothering them,” said one account.
“Using innocent animals just to be fashionable? She’s very nervous,” said one comment.
However, this is not the first time animals have been used in fashion shows. Last month, models at Paris Fashion Week 2023 were seen walking in dresses with real flowers from the garden and live butterflies.
