New Delhi: Commuting by Delhi Metro will be easy now. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced that passengers will be able to travel on all lines of the Delhi Metro using the WhatsApp-based ticketing service. Initially, the service was launched only on the Airport Express line. It added that the service has been rolled out on all Delhi Metro lines in NCR, including Gurgaon Rapid Metro, in collaboration with Meta and its licensee Pelocal Fintech Pvt Ltd.
Passengers on the Airport Express line have experienced the convenience that the service offers. Passengers need to text ‘Hi’ to +91 9650855800 on WhatsApp or scan the provided QR code to purchase metro tickets using their mobile phones on the Delhi Metro network.
Delhi Metro WhatsApp ticket service: features
- The WhatsApp chatbot is available in English and Hindi.
- It is now available on all the corridors of the Delhi Metro and covers all stations, including Gurgaon Rapid Metro.
- Commuters can buy tickets with just a click from any location.
- Ticket bookings can be done between 6 am and 9 pm on all lines.
- For the Airport Express Line (Orange Line), the tickets can be booked from 4 am to 11 pm.
- Ticket cancellation is not allowed via WhatsApp ticketing service.
- No convenience fee will be charged for UPI-based transactions, while a marginal fee will be applicable on credit/debit card transactions.
How to use?
- To avail the service, passengers have to add DMRC’s WhatsApp number 9650855800 in their phone’s contact list.
- Commuters have to send a text message ‘Hi’ to the number or scan the provided QR code to buy metro tickets.
- If travelling in group, a maximum of six QR code-based tickets can be generated at once.
Vikas Kumar, Director General, DMRC, said, “This project will improve the travel experience through Delhi Metro. We are confident that this project will encourage commuters to choose Delhi Metro as their mode of transport. They like transportation.
Ravi Garg, Meta’s chief business officer in India, said that DMRC and Meta aim to make the travel experience easier for people living in NCR, and the WhatsApp ticketing service is another step in that direction. “Every day, millions of commuters rely on Delhi Metro to reach their desired destination, we are happy to bring this ticketing experience to their WhatsApp chats,” he added.
