Mumbai’s suburban train is the quintessential Mumbai experience. No Mumbaikar worth their salt can deny the whirlwind of different emotions one experiences while traveling on local trains. So, anything unusual that happens here must be translated into Mumbaikars.
Recently, a video of a woman belly dancing on a local train went viral on the Internet. This Indian Shakira was spotted between Sandhurst Road and Masjid Bandar. From outside the train it looks like it is on the Central Line and not at the station.
This video was shared by Aliya Mirja, who is a belly dancer according to her Instagram profile. This is not the first time she has shaken her legs (and her hips) with the Mumbai locals.
Given the nature of the video, reactions from netizens were mixed. While many praised his skill and courage to do so without fear in public, others objected and called it immoral. Many people believe that such a dance should not be performed in public. Others gave funny answers. One speaker, in particular, told the dancer to take it slow or the train would derail. A speaker tells her to be careful as she dances near the train door and one wrong move or mistake could spell disaster.
