Following an unusual “fruitarian” diet that left  critically underweight, a woman named Karolina Krzyzak died of malnutrition in Bali. Following an intensive “fruitarian” diet that left her critically malnourished, a 27-year-old lady in Bali died of starvation. The woman had been at the Sumberkima Hill resort in December 2024 and was recognized as Karolina Krzyzak from Warsaw, Poland. She told the workers that she just wanted fruit delivered to her room and asked for a villa with a pool. According to a story by “The Sun,” they recognized her delicate state right away. She was characterized by staff as “emaciated,” with sunken eyes and exposed collarbones. Karolina insisted on following her tight diet in spite of their worries. Throughout her stay, her health kept getting worse. She became so weak one evening that the night clerk had to assist her in getting back to her room since she was unable to walk by herself. Every time a staff member advised her to see a doctor, she refused. Three days into her stay, a local resident who was also Karolina’s friend sent a note to the hotel. According to the buddy, they were concerned for her safety because they had been hoping to hear from her but had not heard anything. Hotel staff went right away to see how she was doing. Karolina was still when they arrived at her villa. She had passed away in her chamber by herself. Later, friends disclosed that Karolina had experienced malnutrition-related health issues, such as protein shortage and osteoporosis. They also indicated she had struggled with an eating issue as a youth, which made her more likely to adopt severe diets. In her early years, Karolina had an interest in wellness. She started practicing yoga and switching to a vegan diet after relocating to the UK to attend Leeds University. Over time, she gravitated toward “fruitarianism,” a diet made up nearly exclusively of fruit. She had received constant encouragement from her parents and friends to go back home and get help. Her social media posts, which revealed that she was significantly underweight, worried them. Karolina decided to stick to her diet in spite of their reservations, which ultimately led to her demise.
