Notes on films: The Life of Adele and Hibernation

Adele's Life

Plot: the film tells about the life of a French high school student Adele, who is just beginning to feel the taste of adult life: cigarettes, guys, sex. But her attention is suddenly taken not by some rocker guy, but by a girl with blue hair, and even the elder Adele. This leads to a hot story that is better to see than to hear.

Problems that are violated: loneliness, uncertainty, first love, certain harassment and discrimination of sexual preferences (had to hide, etc.).

The main characters: Adele is a young girl who is just starting to live and identify herself, dreamy, captured. Emma is a self-confident art student, creative, sometimes sharp. Since the tape is divided into two parts, then in the second one there is an opportunity to see what the main characters have become, having grown up.

Dialogues: between the main characters are quite long - they talk about plans, dreams, about life, quite logically, given the name of the tape.

Features of camerawork: bright colors help together with the heroine to feel the taste of life, enjoyment of it or sadness, where necessary.

Hibernation

Plot: a retired former actor is the owner of a small hotel in the Anatolian steppes. Work does not take up much of his time, and he still does not undertake the realization of his dream - writing a book about the history of Turkish theater. An unexpected snowfall cuts him and his family off from civilization, so they sort of go into "hibernation" in their thoughts, saying everything that has been bothering them for years.

Problems that are violated: marital, class inequality, labor apathy, inability to accept changes at a conscious level.

The main characters: Aydin is a famous actor in the past, who is now hard going through the fact that his fame has been left far behind. He has creative dreams, but lacks motivation and inspiration. Nihal is Aydin's young wife, who shuns him and, in her own way, even despises him. She raises money for the renovation of schools, arranges dinner parties for the rich to become sponsors. Nejla is the divorced sister of the main character, constantly complains that he is not trying to regain his status.

Dialogues: a fairly silent tape full of long shots in which either absolute silence reigns or Schubert's piano music plays. However, when the characters do start talking, they raise everyday topics, turning them into their own philosophical reflections that make you think about life. These are "Chekhov's dialogues". Such dialogues are typical for the author's festival cinema.

Features of operator work: this is a landscape painting, so the main operator's emphasis is on this - the beauty of the Anatolian steppes at different times of the year. However, there were no close-ups of thoughtful glances.

Accents of the film: analyzing the tape into elements, it is easy to highlight the very "recipe" of the festival cinema. This is a kind of excellent student in this field: prolonged timing, philosophical reflections, landscape. One of the important accents of the tape is that the winter emptiness of the Anatolian steppes is a kind of reproduction of the emptiness that reigns in the soul of the protagonist. The snows came when he was cold in his soul. bodyrubs
