In Delhi, it is mandatory to register each birth according to the registration of the Birth Act, 1969. Birth Certificate is one of the important legal documents that functions as proof of a person’s identity in various circumstances. The Chief Registrar of birth is responsible for issuing a birth certificate under the Delhi state government. Birth certificate is a vital record that documents a person’s birth. The term “birth certificate” can refer to the original document that states the state of birth or to a certified copy or representation of the next registration of the birth.

Reason to Get Birth Certificate

Reasons for getting a birth certificate are:

To register for a marriage certificate, people need to submit a birth certificate to prove age.
To get documents such as passports, voter IDs, Driving license, etc.
To get admission in educational institutions.
To claim insurance benefits.

Who Can Register a Birth?

In Delhi, the birth certificate can be obtained if the birth event is registered within 21 days from the date of birth. The person concerned responsible for registering births are as follows:

If birth occurs in a house, the head of the household is responsible for registering the birth.

If birth occurs in hospitals, nursing homes, or health centers, officer authorized by a medical officer are responsible for registering birth.

If the birth occurs in jail, the jail in charge is qualified to report the birth.

If birth occurs in a moving vehicle, the person in charge of the vehicle is needed to report the birth.

If birth is not recorded in one year after birth, the applicant can contact the birthplace for the registration of the event and the Registrar Office for recording the birth.

Time Limit

The birth certificate in Delhi will be issued within seven working days from the date of application.

Documents Required

To get a birth certificate in Delhi, submit the following documents together with the application form.

Proof of birth of the child in respect to whom the certification is required.

Affidavit considering the place, date and time of birth of the person.

Residential certificate of the parent of the respective year.

Parents’ identity proof.

Documents required in the case of delayed birth registration.

A Request letter from father/mother.

Proof of address where the birth of a child takes place.

Affidavit in a prescribed format that includes the complete details of children.

Proof of birth date.

Aadhar card.

The following charges are applicable for registering the birth in Delhi.

Registration within 21 days of birth. No fee
Registration after 21 days of birth. Rs.7
Registration after 30 days but before one year of birth. Rs.10
Registration after one year of birth. Rs.15

The applicant has to follow the below-given procedures to obtain a Birth Certificate Online:

Step 1: Visit the Delhi government official website.

Step 2: Click on the “Online Services” option, which is displayed on the Home page.

Step 4:  On the next page, the user needs to fill the birth enquiry details and click the ‘Search’ button.

Step 5: Now, the applicant can view their birth details which are available in the portal.

Step 6: One needs to select individual birth records from the list of birth records.

Step 7: Click on “Get certificate” Button.
